De drie graefjes / the three counts
De drie graefjes in Amsterdam is famous for their red velvet cakes. Even the legendary cake boss has visited them (if you love cake, you know who that is). For that reason I forced my boyfriend to come to Amsterdam with me. “We” also wanted to visit Forever 21 and the urban outfitters so this was a good idea to get on a train ride to the Capital city of the Netherlands.
When we arrived in Amsterdam, we walked directly to our location because we were starving (like we always are). It’s about a 20 minute walk from Amsterdam Central so that did not help at all but you can also take a tram which shortens the time down to 5 minutes.
What I didnt know is that they have 4 locations in total, 2 lunchrooms and 2 bakery’s. We visited their lunchroom.
De drie graefjes can be (especially during lunch time) very crowded. You can barely find a place to sit. Which is good for the restaurant but maybe not so fun for visitors.
We got a spot upstairs and if you get a spot facing the window you can look at the pretty canals outside.
Food/Menu: They have a lot of different sandwiches and salads. They even have the possibility to do a high tea. I got a chicken avocado club sandwich and my boyfriend went for the Tuna sandwich. You can also choose what kind of bread you would like. Both were very tasty and healthy (just act like the chips are not there).
Vibe: Pretty crowded but not too bad. Maybe better to go in the morning or to one of the other locations. You definitly get an American lunchroom feeling which is pretty cool!
Prices: Pretty standard for a lunch and the cakes have normal prices too!
Personnel: Occupied. You do not get bothered to much because they are busy but they were nice and attentive.
Sadly the red velvet cakes (and most of the other cakes) were sold out (fml) so we definitely have to go back for that..and for other things on the menu.
My conclusion…I would seriously recommend you to go there. Maybe check out one of the other locations first, like the bakery. Lunch was good but not that special ( I did really like all the variety) but since they are famous for their cakes I think those are worth a try!
